Children's Ministry

Our Mission

CTR has a holistic vision of intergenerational community and discipleship that serves as the basis for our children's ministry.  The mission of CTR’s Children’s Ministry is to equip and support parents in their God-ordained role as their child’s primary spiritual teacher and to make sure that even our youngest members know that they are important, contributing members of our church family.

Sunday Mornings

Children participate with adults in the opening portion of the service. Then during the teaching time (about 10 minutes into the service), Pre-K through 6th graders get to scurry off to Sunday School for a lesson and craft geared towards their age level. They return to their families in time to participate in receiving Holy Communion together.

Every second Sunday of the month is "Kids in Worship." Our children are with us for the whole service, and serve in important roles usually reserved for grown ups. On Second Sundays you will find children greeting, reading, ushering, serving communion, and Stumping Pastor Bill with a question about faith or the Bible. There is also a children's sermon before the regular teaching.

We enjoy the beautiful sounds of new life in our service, so you will never be pressured to put your baby in the nursery. But for families who wish to use it, our nursery is staffed with two adults every week and available for babies and toddlers, 6 weeks to 4 years. Please pick up your baby or toddler just prior to Holy Communion.

This slideshow offers a sneak peek into our nursery space.

Everyone who works with children or babies at CTR has completed the required abuse prevention training and has passed a background check. CTR adheres to all Diocese of Carolinas policies found online.

Other Programs

In addition to our regular Sunday School and Nursery programming, here are other highlights from our Children's Ministry.

Parents' Afternoon Out

Parents' Afternoon Out

Once a month the kids get to stay after church, eat lunch, play games, do crafts, and have lots of fun while mom and dad do boring things like have a quiet lunch together or with friends.

Intergenerational Community

Intergenerational Community

A hallmark of life at CTR are the relationships that span generations. Our youngest members, our oldest members, and everyone in between genuinely enjoys worshiping, fellowshiping, and serving together. This is evident every Sunday and at every special event. Studies show that the relationships kids are forming with these adults who are so invested in their lives will play a very important role in their spiritual formation and increases the likelihood that they will remain in the church once they become adults. For now, they just know that they are having fun and feeling loved, and that is enough!
