This is the time of year we traditionally start gathering items to go into shoeboxes to be sent overseas through Operation Christmas Child. Hurricane Florence has changed that.
This year, we want to collect items that will go for Florence relief. The shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child will still be available should you want to continue with that tradition, but our main focus as a congregation will be for Florence relief.
Starting this Sunday, October 28th, Ruth will have available a list of items you can gather which will be distributed locally through the Foodbank of Central and Eastern NC. Purchase and collect the items into a box and bring the box with you to church on Sunday. Look in future Musings for word on the final Sunday items can be dropped off.
Our intention here is to make this experience similar to what we are used to doing through Operation Christmas Child. The difference is we ask you to collect food and cleaning items for Florence relief. I do not know if toys and things for children are included on the list of what is needed, but we do want to respond to what is being asked by the regional Food Bank. Thanks for your understanding and participation as this year, we alter a tradition a little to respond to needs closer to home.
