I saw this on Maurice Hagar’s Face Book page and thought it is worth sharing with all of you.  In this video, Missiologist James K A Smith shares the two top tools Anglicans have in their toolbox, things that address real needs in our culture.

The video can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/170719070
Please take a moment to look at it.

I think James K A Smith is on target with his analysis, but take issue with the terminology he employs.  On our website and other platforms, we avoid using terms like “catholicity” and “liturgical”.  The reality is words like this cause confusion and concern with many people.

While I am in agreement with his points, I think we are better off saying “We follow what has been taught and believed everywhere, always, and by all” or “We major in the majors of the Christian faith and have no novel ideas and theology” instead of using the word “catholicity”.  I think we are better off saying “We follow a set pattern of worship that goes back to the earliest days of Christianity” rather than using the term “liturgical”. You get the idea… The point is to take the good things we have to offer and translate them in a way that makes sense to those who hear, always a good thing to keep in mind!

Summer Reminders
We are now in the ides of June and summer is upon us.  This means it is time for my yearly reminder and pleas:
-Don’t take the summer off from church! The congregation suffers when members are absent, and you will miss the strength that comes from participating in worship.
-Keep your offerings coming! Whether you have pledged or are giving on a regular basis, our bills still keep coming throughout the summer.  Keeping current will help us avoid a summer financial crunch!

With that said, I know people will be traveling and going on day trips and outtings throughout the summer. Have fun, that’s what summer is for!  I will miss a Sunday or two myself.  Don’t forget CTR in the process is all we are asking.

See you Sunday!
-Bill
